FAQ's & Info

Can I visit Working Dog Bakery?
We will open a store in the Bennetts Creek section of Northern Suffolk in late 2006 or early 2007. The great vets at Bennetts Creek Veterinary Care will be opening a grooming, kennel and boarding facility and have asked us to join them. It will be a fun cafe atmosphere where pets can bring their people to get their treats. We will add several store-only items that will set more tails wagging.

Right now, Working Dog Bakery is based out of our own kitchen. While we respect pet owners who want to see exactly where their dog's treats are coming from, keep in mind that this is our home and it is well lived in. Be assured that we are subject to the same health department laws and codes as an actual storefront.

Are you a licensed a pet treat producer?
Yes. We are fully licensed and certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Agriculture as a pet treat producer. Our products have all been analyzed in a professional laboratory for fat, protein, moisture, and fiber content.

People quality ingredients? Are they safe for my dog?
Every ingredient we use at Working Dog Bakery are ones you would find in your own kitchen. Most commercial dog foods and treats are made with a lot of filler and artificial preservatives. Our treats contain no artificial preservatives, and they contain natural ingredients such as unbleached flour, rye flour, oats, egg, natural peanut butter, vegetable oil, and carob.

Okay, so what is carob?
Carob is a dog-safe alternative to chocolate. Carob trees (Ceratonia siliqua) are native to the eastern Mediterranean and have been cultivated for thousands of years. Carob is much healthier than chocolate because it is free of the allergenic and addictive effects of caffeine and contains much less fat. People, particularly vegetarians and healthy dieters, often substitute carob for chocolate. If you are dying for a piece of chocolate, don't steal your dog's treats. Not only is the flavor different, but your dog may get a little peeved.

How many treats should my dog eat?
Would you eat chocolate cake and ice cream all day if you could? Okay, bad question. Should you eat chocolate cake and ice cream all day? No. Dog treats are exactly that - treats. You should only feed yourdog one or two treats a day. canine obesity is a huge problem in the United States, and we encourage pet owners to exercise good judgement when allowing their dogs to indulge.

Do you make cat treats?
Not yet. We plan on introducing a few when we open our new storefront.
